List of things htat I've been doing....

Here is a list of things I have been doing recently, I have no idea how people find time to consistently post to their blogs...

1. Finishing Term paper for class... finished yesterday
2. Went swimming for first time in building pool... I am so out of shape it isn't funny
2. Blackberry died ... living without the leash is pretty nice. Some day Rogers will actually replace it.
3. CIS Hockey Nationals in Ottawa and Moncton... good trips... but no medals... maybe next year
4. Finished web development for Athletics Ecommerce project... system has brought in just over 50k in about a month of operation.
5. Thinking about a golf membership at Whistle Bear... should be good.
6. Looking forward to summer and hanging out with friends...

That's about it recently...

Proper Procrastination Technique

Well it has been a while since I posted on my blog. Not too much has happened really. Generally just working and doing school, also another year older.

So, obviously I have a midterm coming up and need to find something to prevent me from doing studying and posting on my blog seemed like the perfect option. It is really odd because if I keep up with my work for school I am usually ok... but when if comes time to bare down and study I always find something else to do.

For example, yesterday I had the day off. Slept in till about noon. Went to Tim Hortons for breakfast, picked up some comic books and read them. Then watched Pirates 2. Then played some video games and watched TV. Went out to dinner with some friends and voila it's 9:30PM and most of the day is gone.

Today, I actually looked at some history outlines. So it isn't a total loss.

It is my last class though... so I'll get it done.

Also we finally launched the financial management system in Athletics. Formerly, ecommerce system... but since it also tracks cash and cheques... I changed the name. No major bugs so far so that is good.

Well off to find something else to procrastinate at.

Amusing note...

After getting my high school degree I took a quick bow at the end of the stage. I wonder if it is one of gods great jokes that it will be almost a decade before I can do that again... Now time for my last class... I hope.

Happy New Years to all!

Just realized I hadn't posted much recently. So I figured I'd wish every one a Happy New Year and just cover off what's been going on in my life recently.

As of December 11th I've been off work to work on a programming project for Laurier Athletics. Essentially it is to rewrite their e-commerce system and encorporate new features etc. It has been going ok for the most part. I still have several key parts to work on... but what is done is functional which is nice to see.

My only real problem with the system is that it has grown in complexity by leaps and bounds and just scares me when I start thinking about the scope. If I just focus on one function at a time I get by. I need to have it production ready for the beginning of February.

Attended the family Christmas in Cobourgh at my Aunt & Uncle's new place. It is amazing... right on the lake and a great design. I think I might take a week off in the summer and hang out there. I also stopped by my Mom's and my brother and I setup a closet orgainizer we got her for Christmas. The time in Cobourgh was relaxing though.

Finally, my Grandfather gave my brother and I an unexpected gift this Christmas... so I put it to good use and bought a new 42 inch HD Plasma TV. Still have to go out and get the digital TV so I can watch HD TV.... but just regular TV looks great. My DVD player only plays in 480i, but even that looks good. I can't wait to get HD to see the level of improvement.

I guess that is it for now.... all the best to everyone in the New Year.

Music and emotional attachment

Sometimes I wonder how much emotional attachment plays into music/worship. Just sitting in church and you see people singing words that just fit together... But I wonder if they ever think about them.

For example, in one song we (actually I wasn't singing) sung "He is worthy". Now usually for something to be worthy... It has to have worth. Which means we have to have something to compare it to. How do you compare something to God?

I tend to think using music at the begining of services tends to create an emotional state in which people are more vulnerable for the message. Very odd.

The holiday season begins

The holiday season for me used to be exciting... the expectation of new gifts... some family time... etc.... but slowly that has eroded over time. Christmas in and of itself is no longer exciting. What is great is that a lot of my friends are going to be back in southern Ontario so we'll get to hang out a bit before they are off on their whirlwind adventures.

I am also taking 2 weeks off of work to work on a programming project for Athletics. This should also help to make my time more flexible to hang out with friends more.

My class is done for the most part. I currently need 13% more to pass it. Which should be fairly easy as I still have 55% of the grade still outstanding. One more class to go to graduate.

Also, there is a position posted for ITS that is more of a programming/database kind of job and I am wondering if that is more up my alley than the technical support job I currently have. I really like the people I support, but I don't think that the challenge is really there for me.

We'll see. Now I just need to start my Christmas shopping.... sigh.... I find it amusing that we spend all this money giving gifts to each other, while the person who's birthday we are celebrating we tend to ignore. Sure... we goto a church service or two... but do we actually do anything for Him during the Holiday season? What gifts are we giving the Birthday Boy? The commercialization of this Holiday makes me kind of sick.... too much money being spent on the wrong things... sigh... if only the world were perfect.

Motivation?

It is amzaing how things work. And by things I could possibly mean God.

Get a random email (ie forget to turn my blackberry off) through my blog from someone I don't know... so I check out their blog and find the connection... which is kinda neat. Then I start checking through other peoples blogs and find out through a Pyke's blog that their is a Meeting House in KW.

Now I didn't know that... I might even get off my butt on a Sunday to go and see what all the fuss is about. I think I'll find it odd to have church in a movie theatre, but the again I don't think a location really matters is.

I guess it helps that I have a car now and can get there... without taking a bus that would take several hours.

Interesting how life works.,...
